NMo hosts Visitors Programme Dutch Culture and Cultural Heritage Agency of the Netherlands (RCE)
How to learn from each other’s experiences in dealing with challenges in heritage and spatial planning? A visitors programme on the topic of liveable historical cities was organised from 9 to 13 October by DutchCulture and the Cultural Heritage Agency of the Netherlands (RCE). Eight urban heritage professionals from Sri Lanka, Russia, Japan, India and Indonesia were invited to the Netherlands to share and exchange their challenges and expertise. On 10 october they visited the NMo office at the former monastery in Amersfoort. After an introduction by NMo-director Robert Quarles van Ufford, experiences and ideas were shared in a lively discussion and were summarized during drinks in one of the old chambers near the entrance hall.
The representatives per country were: Deepanie Jayasooriya and Varuni Jayathilake (Sri Lanka), Maria Sedletskaya and Narine Tyutcheva (Russia), Daiki Nakagawa (Japan), Rajiv Patel (India) and Doni Widiantono and Jonny Wongso (Indonesia).
The historical inner city is one of the three focal themes of the Shared Cultural Heritage Programme. The visitors programme included meetings, presentations and discussions on, for example, gentrification, green cities and land development. Much appreciated were also the hands-on workshops on urban development and the visitors talk during which the visitors could interact with the Dutch cultural field.
During the wrap-up the visitors concluded: this visit was only the start, the exchange of expertise and experiences will go on!
